COVID-19 cases in Hampton Roads made up roughly 11% of Va.'s increase of 509 from Tuesday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 153,691 total cases, 145,462 of which are confirmed and 8,229 are probable. There are 3,303 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,088 being confirmed and 215 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 509, and deaths are up by 12 since Tuesday. Deaths were reported in four local cities: York, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Suffolk. There were 59 cases in our viewing area that made up 11.5% of the state's total update.

A total of 2,170,313 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. As of Wednesday, the 7-day average for percent positivity in the state is sitting is at 4.8%. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Hampton, and Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Wednesday, there are 641 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 362 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,003 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 77 more hospitalizations from Tuesday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,345.

228 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

109 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 700 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,115 in the state - that's 22% usage.

18,189 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
