Most local health districts reporting under 5% COVID-19 test positivity rate; Deaths reported in 6 local cities since Monday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 142,010 total cases, 135,101 of which are confirmed and 6,909 are probable. There are 3,060 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,853 being confirmed and 207 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 872, and deaths are up by 39 since Monday. Out of the state's total update, there were 15 deaths in 6 local cities: Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and York. Southampton Co. reported the highest local case increase of 146. Local cases made up 27.6% of the state's total increase.

A total of 1,911,580 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. Virginia's percent positivity rate when it comes to testing for the virus is currently being reported at 5.5%, and has been seeing a steady decrease over the month of September. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Norfolk, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Chesapeake and York.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Monday, there are 632 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 308 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 940 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 55 less hospitalizations from Monday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 10,675.

213 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

113 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 598 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,097 in the state - that's 19% usage.

16,979 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
