Norfolk saw 53 additional coronavirus cases from Wednesday, many local cities seeing similar numbers

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 63,735 total cases, 61,039 of which are confirmed and 2,696 are probable. There are 1,816 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,712 being confirmed and 104 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 532, and deaths are up by 30 since Wednesday.

Norfolk saw 53 additional cases from Wednesday and has reported 145 new cases this week alone. Virginia Beach has reported 131 new cases this week. Combined, the two cities have reported 276 additional cases from Sunday.

Chesapeake followed Norfolk in most overnight cases with 34 from Wednesday.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Thursday, there are 545 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 343 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 206 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

95 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 664 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,020 in the state - that's 22% usage.

8,496 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 959 cases, 140 hospitalized, 21 deaths (+34 cases, +3 hospitalizations, +1 death from Thursday)
  • Accomack 1,042 cases, 72 hospitalized, 14 deaths (+1 case from Thursday)
  • Northampton 271 cases, 40 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+2 cases from Thursday)
  • Hampton 339 cases, 41 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+2 cases from Thursday)
  • Norfolk 987 cases, 108 hospitalized, 11 deaths (+53 cases, +1 hospitalization, +1 death from Thursday)
  • James City County 268 cases, 58 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+3 cases from Thursday)
  • Newport News 541 cases, 45 hospitalized, 10 deaths (+6 cases +1 hospitalization from Thursday)
  • Poquoson 19 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • Williamsburg 61 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+0 from Thursday)
  • York County 116 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+1 case from Thursday)
  • Portsmouth 513 cases, 71 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+16 cases, +2 hospitalizations, +2 deaths from Thursday)
