DARE Co., N.C. – Seven confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in four Dare County schools on Wednesday.

School officials said there was on case in Kitty Hawk Elementary School, one case in First Flight Elementary School, three in Manteo Elementary School and two in First Flight Middle School.

Officials told parents, “Upon initiation of contact tracing, the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services has identified over 200 direct contacts in these schools who will begin quarantining immediately following N.C. Department of Health and Human Services guidelines.”

Kitty Hawk Elementary School, First Flight Elementary School, Manteo Elementary School and First Flight Middle School are closed Thursday for all students and staff so that the district safety team can deep cleanse and sanitize these buildings.

First Flight Middle School will also be closed on Friday, school officials said. Ten additional staff members have to be quarantined based on the confirmed cases. School officials said this makes it impossible to effectively staff the school before Monday. First Flight Middle School will reopen on Monday, November 16.
