Viewing area reports 24% of Va's 1,005 COVID-19 case increase, 7 local deaths & 14 hospitalizations since Monday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 114,635 total cases, 109,679 of which are confirmed and 4,956 are probable. There are 2,494 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,370 being confirmed and 124 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,005, and deaths are up by 23 since Monday. Locally, our Virginia viewing area saw a case increase of 244, deaths went up by 7 and there were 14 more hospitalizations. There were 4 deaths in Chesapeake and 1 in Norfolk, Newport News and James City County. Norfolk reported the highest case increase of 81 and Western Tidewater remains the region with the highest COVID-19 test percent positivity rate. Our viewing area made up 24% of the daily case increase.

This week alone, our local viewing area has reported 564 cases, 37 hospitalizations and 20 deaths.

A total of 1,495,014 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. Virginia's COVID-19 test percent positivity has not changed from Monday and currently sits at 6.4%.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Tuesday there are 827 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 347 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,174 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 47 more hospitalizations from Monday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 9,259.

273 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

144 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 619 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,086 in the state - that's 20% usage.

14,581 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
