Virginia Beach, Norfolk report highest local coronavirus case increase in a day

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 54,506 total cases, 52,103 of which are confirmed and 2,403 are probable. There are 1,546 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,438 being confirmed and 108 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 637, and deaths are up by 5 since Saturday.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Saturday, there are 656 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 302 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 334 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

155 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 625 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,954 in the state - that's 21% usage.

7,178 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged. That's 47 more patients discharged from Saturday.

  • Chesapeake 659 cases, 100 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+9 from Saturday)
  • Accomack 993 cases, 59 hospitalized, 14 deaths (+4 from Saturday)
  • Northampton 262 cases, 34 hospitalized, 27 deaths (+1 from Saturday)
  • Hampton 238 cases, 37 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+4 from Saturday)
  • Norfolk 660 cases, 80 hospitalized, 7 deaths (+17 from Saturday)
  • James City County 233 cases, 56 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+2 from Saturday)
  • Newport News 371 cases, 42 hospitalized, 10 deaths (+14 from Saturday)
  • Poquoson 11 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (0 from Saturday)
  • Williamsburg 50 cases, 11 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+1 from Saturday)
  • York County 93 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+2 from Saturday)
  • Portsmouth 375 cases, 57 hospitalized, 12 deaths (0 from Saturday)
  • Gloucester 37 cases, 9 hospitalized, 1 deaths (+1 from Saturday)
