Virginia coronavirus daily cases rise by 658, Virginia Beach and Suffolk see highest new local cases

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 64,393 total cases, 61,690 of which are confirmed and 2,703 are probable. There are 1,845 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,741 being confirmed and 104 probable. The case numbers are up by 658, and deaths are up by 29 since Thursday.

A total of 685,657 total PCR testing encounters have now happened in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Friday, there are 535 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 283 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 207 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

95 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 646 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,020 in the state - that's 21% usage.

8,711 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

Virginia Beach and Hampton saw the largest one day rise of cases locally from Thursday to Friday.

Here's the breakdown of confirmed cases in local areas:

  • Chesapeake 972 cases, 143 hospitalized, 21 deaths (+13 cases from Thursday)
  • Accomack 1,042 cases, 72 hospitalized, 14 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • Northampton 271 cases, 41 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • Hampton 354 cases, 41 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+15 cases from Thursday)
  • Norfolk 1,000 cases, 111 hospitalized, 11 deaths (+13 cases from Thursday)
  • James City County 270 cases, 58 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+2 cases from Thursday)
  • Newport News 549 cases, 45 hospitalized, 10 deaths (+8 cases from Thursday)
  • Poquoson 19 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • Williamsburg 61 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • York County 120 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+4 cases from Thursday)
  • Portsmouth 526 cases, 73 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+13 cases from Thursday)
  • Gloucester 49 cases, 9 hospitalized, 1 deaths (+0 cases from Thursday)
  • Virginia Beach 1,254 cases, 121 hospitalized, 30 deaths (+29 cases from Thursday)
  • Franklin City 52 cases, 4 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+1 cases from Thursday)
