Virginia coronavirus-related deaths spike by 28 in a day, 638 new cases reported

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 66,740 total cases, 63,950 of which are confirmed and 2,790 are probable. There are 1,881 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,775 being confirmed and 106 being probable. The case numbers are up by 638, and deaths are up by 28 since Monday.

A total of 725,327 PCR testing encounters have now happened in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Tuesday, there are 589 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 313 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 221 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

105 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 638 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,004 in the state - that's 21% usage.

8,913 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 1,046 cases, 154 hospitalized, 22 deaths (+20 cases from Monday)
  • Accomack 1,042 cases, 72 hospitalized, 14 deaths (-2 cases from Monday)
  • Northampton 272 cases, 41 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+14 cases from Monday)
  • Hampton 390 cases, 41 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+14 cases from Monday)
  • Norfolk 1,162 cases, 116 hospitalized, 12 deaths (+57 cases from Monday)
  • James City County 306 cases, 58 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+9 cases from Monday)
  • Newport News 613 cases, 45 hospitalized, 10 deaths (+21 cases from Monday)
  • Poquoson 19 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+0 cases from Monday)
  • Williamsburg 75 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+1 cases from Monday)
  • York County 131 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+0 cases from Monday)
  • Portsmouth 572 cases, 75 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+23 cases from Monday)
  • Gloucester 53 cases, 9 hospitalized, 1 deaths (+3 cases from Monday)
  • Virginia Beach 1,455 cases, 124 hospitalized, 30 deaths (+63 cases from Monday)
  • Franklin City 58 cases, 4 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+3 cases from Monday)
