Virginia reports 1,116 new COVID-19 cases; Hampton Roads, surrounding areas make up 13.8% of daily case increase

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 150,803 total cases, 142,923 of which are confirmed and 7,880 are probable. There are 3,270 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,057 being confirmed and 213 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,116, and deaths are up by 20 since Friday. Deaths were reported in 7 local cities: Chesapeake, Franklin, Newport News, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

Norfolk saw the most local overnight increase of cases at 34. There were 155 local cases which made up about 13.8% of the state's total increase.

A total of 2,113,878 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. As of Saturday the statewide 7-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is currently sitting at 4.7%. Several health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Hampton, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Saturday, there are 600 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 306 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 906 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 16 more hospitalizations from Friday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,191.

191 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

103 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 644 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,075 in the state - that's 21% usage.

17,810 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
