Virginia reports 2,558 new COVID-19 cases; Total number of COVID-19 patients discharged from hospital passes 40K

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 504,779 total cases, 404,469 of which are confirmed and 100,310 are probable. There are 6,464 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 5,657 being confirmed and 807 being probable. The case numbers are up by 2,558, and deaths are up by 15 since Saturday.

The VDH said surveillance system upgrades that took place Saturday, January 30 affected the data on the COVID-19 Cases & Testing Dashboards on January 31 and February 1. A decrease in the number of cases and tests reported on January 31 and an increase in the number of cases and tests reported on February 1 is anticipated because of these upgrades.

A total of 5,234,155 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

As of Sunday Virginia has given a total of 805,695 COVID-19 vaccines. The table below gives more information about local vaccine distribution.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 2,232 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 284 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 2,516 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 116 fewer hospitalizations from Saturday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 21,409.

496 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

315 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 1,061 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,932 in the state - that's 36% usage.

40,322 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

As of Sunday the percent of positive COVID-19 tests in Virginia is 11.8%.
