Virginia reports 449 new COVID-19 cases since Sunday; Virginia has 2nd lowest transmission rate in nation

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 146,593 total cases, 139,144 of which are confirmed and 7,449 are probable. There are 3,172 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,962 being confirmed and 210 being probable. The case numbers are up by 449, and deaths are up by 13 since Sunday.

A total of 2,027,168 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are continuing to report at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Eastern Shore District, Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and the Peninsula District.

Local cases made up 21.83% of Monday's increase, with Hampton Roads and its surrounding areas reporting 98 new cases and 4 deaths.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Monday, there are 602 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 288 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 890 being hospitalized for coronavirus-related illness. That's 22 more hospitalizations from Sunday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 10,916.

193 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

103 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 651 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,104 in the state - that's 21% usage.

17,483 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

Gov. Northam tweeted some positive statistics on Monday. He said Virginia is seeing a record low statewide COVID-19 tests at 4.7%, we have seem the lowest average number of new cases in a day since July and he said Virginia has the second lowest transmission rate in the nation.
