Virginia reports 900 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths; Local areas make up 13% of state case increase

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 166,138 total cases, 155,838 of which are confirmed and 10,300 are probable. There are 3,433 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,186 being confirmed and 247 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 900, and deaths are up by 11 since Saturday. There were 4 deaths reported in 2 local cities: Chesapeake and Norfolk. There were 121 local cases that made up roughly 13.4% of the state's total increase.

A total of 2,386,778 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. As of Sunday, the 7-day average for percent positivity in the state is sitting is at 5%. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Portsmouth, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 690 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 282 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 972 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 21 fewer hospitalizations from Saturday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,861.

205 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

95 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 604 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,678 in the state - that's 23% usage.

18,996 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
