Virginia reports record single-day COVID-19 case increase with 4,782 new cases, breaking record set yesterday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 323,915 total cases, 275,235 of which are confirmed and 48,680 are probable. There are 4,791 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 4,263 being confirmed and 528 being probable. The case numbers are up by 4,782, and deaths are up by 31 since Wednesday.

Thursday's case increase marks a record single-day increase for Virginia. The previous record was set Wednesday.

A total of 4,070,000 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The test percent positivity rates in Hampton Roads are as follows. All health districts except for the Eastern Shore Health District are reporting rates above the state average, which is 11.5 percent. Chesapeake's percent positivity continues to be the highest since the start of the pandemic.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Thursday, there are 2,240 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 337 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 2,577 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 9 fewer hospitalizations from Wednesday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 17,389.

530 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

294 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 998 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,008 in the state - that's 33% usage.

28,940 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
