Virginia sees 2,861 new COVID-19 cases since Sunday as Hampton Roads health districts continue to see double digit test positivity

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 507,640 total cases, 406,591 of which are confirmed and 101,049 are probable. There are 6,474 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 5,666 being confirmed and 808 being probable. The case numbers are up by 2,861, and deaths are up by 10 since Sunday.

A total of 5,261,801 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

As of Monday Virginia has given a total of 843,230 COVID-19 vaccines. The table below gives more information about local vaccine distribution.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Monday, there are 2,183 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 263 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 2,446 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 70 less current hospitalizations from Sunday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 21,444.

478 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

304 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 1,030 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,933 in the state - that's 35% usage.

40,511 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

Here's a look at the local health district's percent of positive COVID-19 tests as of Monday:

  • Eastern Shore District - 11.7% positive
  • Chesapeake - 19.5% positive
  • Western Tidewater District - 14.4% positive
  • Hampton - 18% positive
  • Peninsula District - 15% positive
  • Norfolk - 15.7% positive
  • Portsmouth - 19.3% positive
  • Virginia Beach - 16.2% positive
