Zero COVID-19 deaths reported in Hampton Roads; Average local test positivity rate under 5%

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 152,557 total cases, 144,439 of which are confirmed and 8,118 are probable. There are 3,276 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,063 being confirmed and 213 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 687, and deaths are up by 3 since Sunday. There were no deaths reported in our local Virginia viewing area out of the state's update. There were 138 local cases which made up about 20% of Virginia's increase.

A total of 2,139,991 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. The state is entering another week of the COVID-19 test percent positivity being under 5%. As of Monday, the 7-day average for percent positivity is sitting is at 4.8%.

Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Hampton, and Virginia Beach. When looking at the rate of all the health districts in our area, the overall average is 4.5%.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of there are 596 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 329 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 925 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 48 more hospitalizations from Sunday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,259.

213 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

101 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 595 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 213 in the state - that's 19% usage.

17,893 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
