The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.
According to their website, there are now 159,570 total cases, 150,321 of which are confirmed and 9,249 are probable. There are 3,361 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,122 being confirmed and 239 being probable.
The case numbers are up by 854, and deaths are up by 3 since Sunday. There were zero deaths reported in our viewing area from Sunday. There were 105 local cases which made up about 12% of the state's total update.
A total of 2,271,842 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. As of Monday, the 7-day average for percent positivity in the state is sitting is at 4.5%. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Portsmouth, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Monday, there are 644 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 321 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 965 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 41 more hospitalizations from Sunday.
The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,553.
205 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.
92 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 586 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,678 in the state - that's 22% usage.
18,539 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
