MATHEWS Co., Va. - A COVID-19 outbreak has been reported after a large number of people recently gathered at an event in Mathews County.

A spokesperson with the the Three Rivers Health District confirmed to News 3 that more than 150 people attended the event in the area. They did not elaborate on what type of event it was or exactly when it happened.

After the outbreak was reported, Middle Peninsula Medical Center sent an email to patients to keep everyone updated on the current situation. Health officials at the center "strongly recommend" that anyone who was at the event and is currently asymptomatic quarantine as if they have the virus. They also recommend waiting at least five to seven days from exposure to be tested and to call the office if any symptoms do occur.
