GLOUCESTER Co., Va. - The Virginia State Police were called to investigate a two vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality on Sunday night.

Reports say the accident happened on Route 14, east of Crab Thicket Road. The driver of a 2002 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 14, when it collided head on into a 2009 Chevrolet Impala.

The driver of the Hyundai, an adult female, and a child in the backseat, were transported to Riverside regional Hospital with serious injuries. The front seat male passenger in the Hyundai, 50-year-old Robert Lindsay-Cruz, was taken to Walter Reed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries, and was transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.

The VSP's preliminary investigations stated that neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors and that charges are pending at this time.
