Death of man found in Norfolk apartment classified as homicide

NORFOLK, Va. – Detectives with the Norfolk Police Department are investigating a man’s death as a homicide after his body was found inside an apartment Thursday afternoon.

According to police, around 12:30 p.m., crews from the police department and Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to the 1000 block of Little Bay Avenue to check on the well-being of a man.

When first responders arrived, they found a man unresponsive inside of the apartment. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

On Friday, police identified the victim as 50-year-old Michael D. Mizzell.
