NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Due to concerns over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Delta Airlines is temporarily suspending all flights at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (PHF), airport officials announced Friday.

No Delta flights will be serviced to or from the airport beginning on May 13.

Under the CARES Act, the U.S. Department of Transportation allowed airlines to temporarily consolidate service in cases where multiple airports serve the same "point."

Before the pandemic, Delta Airlines flew Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport three times a day. Those flights averaged up to 90% load factors.

The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport served the Peninsula and all of Hampton Roads with up to 13 daily non-stop flights to Philadelphia, Atlanta and Charlotte.
