NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Virginia Living Museum’s Dino Family Challenge Weekend with special activities is taking place on February 15, 16 and 17.

Activities included in the Dino Family Challenge Weekend include building a Dino Boat, Dinosaur Corn Hole, crossing a Tar Pit and navigating through a Jurassic Jungle Maze. The three-day weekend will also include the animal show A Family of Titans at noon, 1 and 2 pm Saturday, Sunday and holiday Monday.

All activities and animal shows are included in Museum admission.

The Museum also encourages families to explore the current travelling exhibit Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies. A central feature of the exhibit is a presentation about the discovery of Baby Louie, the nearly complete skeleton of a dinosaur embryo with its bones aligned in the proper position. Charlie Magovern made this exceptional and rare discovery in 1993 when he was carefully cleaning a large block of eggs from China. He nicknamed the embryo after National Geographic photographer Louis Psihoyos. It was not until 2017 that this remarkable find was officially published. Tiny Titans has included these new revelations as well as other new scientific discoveries to fill in the gaps of what is known of dinosaur family life.

Also, during the holiday weekend, the Abbitt Planetarium will feature several shows throughout the day:

  • Kaluoka’hina: The Enchanted Reef: 11:30 am
  • From Earth to the Universe: 12:30 pm
  • Zula Patrol: Down to Earth: 1:30 pm
  • Virginia Skies: 2:30 pm
  • From Earth to the Universe: 3:30 pm
  • Follow the Drinking Gourd: 4:30 pm FREE-Museum admission not included
