Dominion Energy and Virginia Natural Gas have announced that they are suspending service disconnections for nonpayment in response to the novel coronavirus.

"Our customers should not have to worry about losing service during this critical time. Therefore, Dominion Energy suspended all service disconnections for nonpayment earlier this week," said Dominion Energy Media and Community Relations Manager Bonita Harris. "We know the communities we serve rely on us to provide an essential service. We remain committed to providing reliable energy service 24-7."

"Because of this new landscape and how it may cause financial hardship for its customers impacted by employment changes or business slowdown, Virginia Natural Gas voluntarily has suspended service disconnections for non-payment, effective immediately for both residential and commercial customers," said Virginia Natural Gas PR and Media Relations Manager Rick DelaHaya.

The announcement comes as businesses and institutions across Hampton Roads and Virginia are responding to the coronavirus.

No date has been given for when the service disconnection suspension will be lifted.
