SURRY Co., Va. - An 81-year-old man died after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Beechland Road and White Marsh Road in Surry County Friday afternoon.
Just before 4 p.m., the Virginia State Police Communications Center received a call of a crash in the area. Troopers arrived on scene to find one of the drivers dead, while the other driver was suffering from life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the the male driver of a 2003 Honda Accord stopped at the intersection, then proceeded through the intersection and was hit by a 2013 GMC Sierra Truck. The driver of the truck, also a male, was not wearing his seat belt and died upon impact.
State Police say the driver of the Honda was also not wearing his seat belt and was flown by med-vac to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries.
Troopers have identified the deceased as 81-year-old Robert Lee White of Surry County. Authorities say the driver of the Honda, Glenn Miller failed to yield right of way.
Both drivers' families have been notified of the incident.
