Driver injured after Portsmouth police pursuit ends in crash

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A police pursuit in Portsmouth ended in a crash Friday afternoon, sending one man to the hospital.

According to Sergeant Misty Holley, a deputy sheriff attempted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Rockbridge Road around 3 p.m., but the vehicle failed to yield.

A pursuit ensued, and the vehicle crashed a short distance away, according to police. The vehicle's driver sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries due to the crash and was taken to a local hospital.

Charges against the driver are pending, and the investigation is being handled by the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office.
