Elizabeth City man arrested for drugs, child abuse

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Elizabeth City Police arrested a man for drug and gun charges following a traffic stop Tuesday.

Police say an officer conducted a traffic stop around 12:24 p.m., in the 500 block of Lane Street.

26-year-old Kelvin Ikeem Thorton was arrested after police discovered he was unlicensed, in possession of a concealed handgun, 99.8 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and over $5,000, according to reports.

Police reports that the only other passenger was a young child.

Police say Thorton was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell, drug paraphernalia, carry of concealed handgun, and child abuse.

Thorton was given a $10,000 secured bond and has a set court date of April 13.
