Employee of Portsmouth Sheriff's Office arrested, charged with rape

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - An employee of the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office has been arrested and charged with rape.

Christopher Lamont Bailey was charged and arrested by the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office for rape on February 27.

Officials say he turned himself in on March 25 and was held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond. However, was released on bond on March 31.

Officials would not provide Bailey's exact title or length of employment when asked by News 3. However, they did confirm that Bailey is currently on administrative leave.

This matter is under investigation by the Internal Affairs office of the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office.
