HAMPTON ROADS, Va.— Calling all restaurants, bakeries and caterers— a local group is asking for help this holiday season to show appreciation for frontline heroes.

The organization Celebrate Healthcare is behind the "Feed Our Frontline Heroes Challenge" and hopes more restaurants will pledge to feed those who are serving us all.

“Look who’s in your community - who is out here on the frontlines, who is doing the work - and let’s get them a meal," said Gaylene Kanoyton, President of Celebrate Healthcare.

The idea is that if people band together, they can make the holiday season brighter during difficult times.

"Our frontline heroes, they are working 24/7. They are in healthcare, they’re in the grocery store, they’re at fire stations— you know, firemen, they are our policemen,” said Kanoyton.

The goal is to have restaurants, bakeries and caterers offer a menu with affordably-priced options the community can purchase and have delivered to frontline workers in their community.

“It helps our restaurants, it’ll help the community to be able to give back to our heroes, and it’s a win-win situation all the way around,” explained Kanoyton.

For as long as the pandemic carries on, they hopesupport for the people working on the frontlines will, too.

They’re looking for restaurants across Hampton Roads to sign up. Anyone who is interested can email celebratehealthcare@gmail.com to sign up.

Kanoyton says a directory with all participating businesses will be made public on the Celebrate Healthcare website.
