PERQUIMANS Co., N.C. - An abandoned building on Seabreeze Road went up in flames Monday morning.

Around 11:33 a.m., the Perquimans 911 Center received multiple calls for a structure fire in the Holiday Island subdivision.

A deputy was the first person to arrive on scene and approached what appeared to be an abandoned structure in the woods. The deputy tried to make sure no one was on the property.

The deputy also tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the fire quickly evolved and was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

Crews were on scene for more than four hours containing and overhauling the fire.

The Bethel Fire Department, Hertford Fire Department, Winfall Fire Department, the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, Perquimans County EMS and Perquimans County Emergency Management all responded.

The fires is under investigation by the Perquimans County Fire Marshal’s Office.
