NORFOLK, Va. - Two thousand meals were given out to the Norfolk community Saturday.

Solid Rock Worldwide Outreach Ministryheld their 12th annual Turkey Trailer: A Day of Giving Back Saturday morning in the Harbor Park Stadium parking lot.

They initially planned to give away 1,000 meals, but because of the need created by the pandemic, they decided to double their giveaway.

That's not the only thing that's changed this year. While it's usually a walk-up event, this year was held drive-thru style - and with extra safety precautions in mind.

"Making sure that COVID guidelines were followed was a huge part of this event. You know, everyone has to stay gloved up and masked up; a lot of sanitizer on hand. And just making sure that everyone is safe and everyone is served," said Mechele Hairston, Outreach Coordinator for Solid Rock Worldwide and the founder of the annual Turkey Trailer Assistance Program.

This annual giveaway started in 2008.
