Drive-in movie theater kicks off outside Hampton Coliseum

HAMPTON, Va. - Missing watching movies on the big screen? You can catch eight showings outside the Hampton Coliseum drive-in theater!

The pop-up drive-in comes as the coliseum celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Two movies will be shown each night at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. starting Thursday, July 16 with The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. On Friday, July 17, Sonic the Hedgehog will screen at 7 p.m. and Men in Black will air at 10 p.m. and on Saturday, July 18, The Addams Family will screen at 7 p.m. followed by the fifth movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise "Fast Five" at 10 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now for $30 per vehicle plus a $6 fee and must be purchased in advance. The screenings for Sonic the Hedgehog and The Addams Family are SOLD OUT, according to Hampton Coliseum Asst. Director Peter O'Donnell, who added that the coliseum has roughly 165 spaces available per showing.

Tickets will be available for purchase until 3 p.m. on the day of the show, officials said.

For another $20, movie-goers can add specially prices movie snack-packs to their ticket order which includes four popcorns, four candies and four drinks.

Officials ask the public to adhere to health and safety guidelines when visiting the venue. For the safety of all patrons and employees, visitors are asked to wear face masks and maintain social distance while inside and outside the facility.
