NORFOLK, Va. - A local restaurant gives back to feed hungry doctors and nurses working hard during the pandemic.

Norfolk’s MP Island Café brought its food truck to Sentara Leigh Hospital on Thursday to cook up lunch for the staff.

Owner Michael Palmer says a lot of the hospital’s workers are his regular lunch customers. He doesn’t see them as often these days, so he brought lunch to them, serving up fried, jerk and curry chicken, fried fish - all with some delicious sides.

Sentara staff came out and loaded the meals onto carts to take into the hospital. Palmer told news three he was happy to do it.

“We feel good about giving back. These are the people who help keep us in business. It was a no-brainer for us to come out and serve the hospital and the community around here,” Palmer told us.

Palmer says he cooked up more than 150 meals for the hospital.
