VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – HRSDhas received $8.7 million in funding from the CARES Act program to help customers faced with past-due water and wastewater bills resulting from COVID-19-related financial hardships.

Funds will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis and must be disbursed by January 29, 2021.

More than 40,000 customers throughout the HRSD service region will receive information about eligibility via door hangers.

Customers may be eligible if they have suffered a loss of income related to COVID-19 and must complete a brief questionnaire by phone or online to determine eligibility.

Though the funding may only be applied to past due water and wastewater charges for the time frame of March 1, 2020 through December 30, 2020, and cannot be applied to any late fees, interest or penalty charges, HRSD is waiving all fees and penalties from HRSD wastewater treatment balances incurred during that time frame.
