ISLE OF WIGHT, Co., Va. - Deputies with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office and members of the Optimist Club of Isle of Wight joined forces Thursday to spread some holiday cheer during a year that's been tough for everyone.

Every year, the local Optimist Club has raised funds to be passed out to people in the county during the Christmas season. The club was chartered in 2010 with the main goal to raise money and invest back into the county, especially in areas to benefit children.

This year was no different. Thursday morning, "Operation Santa" paired up members of the club with staff from the sheriff's office, and together they hit the roads to hand out more than $1,500 to residents.
