NORFOLK, Va. - The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is hosting the third annual Hunger Heroes Food Frenzy.

The event emphasizes an initiative geared toward raising funds and awareness of food insecurity in our community. This year it's 100% virtual.

Organizers say Hunger Heroes is open to any and all groups of people, including businesses, sports teams, social clubs, youth groups and families.

Each organization can sign up online and collect points based on fun activities they must do.

Event leaders say proceeds from the Hunger Heroes Food Frenzy will support services to vulnerable populations most likely to suffer during the outbreak of COVID-19 like seniors, children and low-income families.

“In typical times, we serve around 160, 000 individuals that are struggling with food insecurity. Everybody knows with the current economic situation, there are more folks that are in need of our services and there are additional folks who are really struggling to get food safely right now,” says Jessica Sullivan, Director of Development, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

The competition has already started, and it will close on Friday, June 12. For more information on how to join a team, click here.
