ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench into the plans for many graduating seniors, but one local mom gave her son the surprise of a lifetime amid all the uncertainty.

On May 16, Cindy Moore-Bridges held a surprise mock graduation ceremony for her son, Shawn Edwin Moore-Bridges, as a birthday gift. Shawn recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Science with a concentration in Air Traffic Control from Elizabeth City State University.

Originally scheduled to be held on May 9, ESCU has postponed the in-person graduation ceremony until August. However, Cindy says if the pandemic peaks in July, that ceremony has a chance of being canceled as well. So, she did what any loving mother would do - she made her own graduation ceremony!

The Moore-Bridges family practiced social distancing and wore masks during the mock ceremony, transforming their yard into a stage worthy of pomp and circumstance.

What's even more impressive is that Cindy says she planned the whole thing in less than 48 hours and had it all set up within three hours!

Congratulations, Shawn!
