VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - This Thanksgiving holiday, a local store and insurance company are teaming up to give away turkeys.

Thursday, Malbon Bros. Corner Mart in Virginia Beach worked with Bunn Insurance to give away 250 turkeys to families in need.

Mike and Mark Malbon, who own the corner mart, say this is their third year giving away turkeys. Last year, we presented them with a People Taking Action award for "Thanksgiving-back" to their community.

The brothers said this year is very special due to the pandemic.

Organizers spoke to News 3 about what it means to help out people in the community this holiday season.

"To look in their faces and, you know, the gratitude... they come up, they're teary-eyed and they say, 'We weren't going to get a... we couldn't afford a turkey this year. You guys saved our Thanksgiving," said Mark Malbon.

People can also pick up a turkey in order to deliver it to someone who needs it.

The event started this afternoon and ran until 6 p.m.
