Hampton Roads, surrounding areas make up 43% of Commonwealth's 981 COVID-19 daily case rise

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 91,782 total cases, 88,324 of which are confirmed and 3,458 are probable. There are 2,218 total coronavirus related deaths, with 2,108 being confirmed and 110 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 981, and deaths are up by 3 since Saturday. Hampton Roads and its surrounding cities saw 422 new cases, 7 additional hospitalizations and 1 death from Saturday.

A total of 1,136,568 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 858 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 315 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 267 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

138 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 660 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,062 in the state - that's 22% usage.

12,108 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 2,538 cases, 206 hospitalized, 29 deaths (+76 cases, +2 hospitalizations from Saturday)
  • Accomack 1,079 cases, 78 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+2 cases, +1 hospitalization from Saturday)
  • Northampton 292 cases, 45 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+0 cases from Saturday)
  • Hampton 1,048 cases, 49 hospitalized, 5 deaths (+39 cases from Saturday)
  • Norfolk 3,210 cases, 172 hospitalized, 26 deaths (+25 cases, +2 hospitalizations from Saturday)
  • James City County 549 cases, 59 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+8 cases from Saturday)
  • Newport News 1,639 cases, 74 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+50 cases from Saturday)
  • Poquoson 36 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+0 cases from Saturday)
  • Williamsburg 111 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+2 cases from Saturday)
  • York County 310 cases, 14 hospitalized, 3 deaths (+2 cases from Saturday)
  • Portsmouth 1,539 cases, 125 hospitalized, 24 deaths (+47 cases, +1 hospitalization from Saturday)
  • Gloucester 145 cases,12 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+2 cases from Saturday)
  • Virginia Beach 4,299 cases, 202 hospitalized, 47 deaths (+121 cases, +1 hospitalization, +1 death from Saturday)
