NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Peninsula Health District lifted a swimming advisory Thursday for Hilton Beach.
Samples taken Wednesday showed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded the state water quality standard. Subsequent samples on Thursday showed that the bacteria levels had returned to normal.
Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria routinely during the summer swimming season, using indicator organisms such as enterococci, the indicator of choice for estuarine and marine waters.
Hilton Beach is located at 25 River Road.
