NORFOLK, Va. - IKEA Norfolk is holding an event to help support people facing homelessness in Hampton Roads this winter.
IKEA Norfolk reached out to the Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team earlier this winter to donate blankets, pillows and reusable bags that helped fulfill some of the immediate needs of those using the NEST winter shelter. Now, the store will hold an event Saturday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect donations for NEST and educate the public about people facing homelessness in the Hampton Roads community.
Most-needed items include blankets, hats, gloves, socks, men's underwear (sizes L and XL), travel-sized toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste and washcloths, and all items must be new. Some items will be able to purchase and donate at IKEA Norfolk.
A self-guided scavenger hunt will be offered to educate visitors on NEST and assemble cold-weather kits for the organization.
Visitors can also visit IKEA's restaurant and provide a dinner for someone staying in the shelter for $4.99. IKEA Norfolk will match the first 100 meals donated.
