KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. - The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to an early-Sunday morning structure fire in the 200 block of Pine Grove Trail that left two people dead.

According to the department, the call came in at 4:25 a.m. Fire crews from Colington and Nags Head, along with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS, also responded to the scene.

The fire was extinguished with extensive damage to the structure on the first and second floors.

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department reported that 39-year-old Ann Rachell Horton and her son Sebastian Lopez died from the fire.

The fire's cause was determined to be accidental due to an unattended charcoal cooking grill that was close to the combustibles on the deck.
