NORFOLK, Va. - For the past twenty years, Joy Ministries and Danette Crawford have honored single mothers, widows and military moms whose husbands are deployed at the annual Mother’s Day Celebration hosted at the Marriott in Norfolk.
When Joy Ministries found out that they could not host the large banquet event, they came up with another plan to make Mother’s Day memorable for women who would otherwise go without recognition on that special day.
Instead of inviting the women to a Mother’s Day banquet, Joy Ministries is bringing the celebration to them through mobile meal deliveries. Joy Ministries is providing mobile meals to single moms, widows, and military moms whose husbands are deployed from across Hampton Roads on Mother’s Day weekend.
Women living in Joy Ministries “low income” adopted neighborhoods who register, will be receiving a Mobile Meal and Gift Delivery on Saturday, May 9.
Other single mothers and widows from the community can register to “drive through” and pick up a meal on Sunday, May 10. Meals can be picked up on Mother’s Day at Kingdom World Outreach Center located at4221 Pleasant Valley Road from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Women from the community can register for their mobile meal by calling (757)-420-2625. In addition to receiving meals for both them and their children, each mother will receive a gift.
Danette Crawford will be broadcasting a special Mother’s Day message for single moms and widows at 6 p.m. on Mother’s Day through Facebook. Single moms who register, like the Danette Crawford page, and are watching the live feed will have an opportunity to win prizes.
