RICHMOND, Va. -- A death investigation was launched in Richmond after a man was found dead in a parked car.

Rosa Pemberton said garbage collectors were honking their horn outside her Cliff Avenue home Wednesday morning when they could not drive past a car parked in an alley.

She said garbage collectors then moved the car out of the way.

Hours later, when she noticed the car had not moved again, she called police to report a stolen vehicle.

Officers arrived and found a man's body in the back seat.

"At approximately 9:11 a.m. officers received a call for the report of a vehicle parked in an alley on the even side of the 3200 block of Cliff Avenue," a Richmond Police spokesperson said. "When officers arrived they found an adult male inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound."

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Every neighborhood has something going on, but to have it that close to your door is shocking," Pemberton said.

The shooting victim's name has not yet been released.

Police have not yet disclosed information about a shooting suspect.

This is a developing story. Anyone with information was asked to call Major Crimes Det. Ripley at 804-646-0423.
