Man arrested, charged with shooting into occupied vehicle in Newport News

HAMPTON, Va. - The Hampton Police Division arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on August 8.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., dispatch received a call in reference to a shots fired in the 100 block of West Mercury Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located several vehicles and a building that had been struck by gunfire.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle arrived in the parking lot of a local business when one of the occupants exited and began shooting at another parked vehicle. No one was struck by gunfire, but one person received minor injuries from broken glass.

Tysheen Payne, a 26-year-old Hampton man, was arrested on August 13. Payne was charged with one count of attempted maiming, one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, one count of reckless handling of a firearm, one count of shooting in public, and one count of shooting across a roadway.

Payne also had existing charges out of Newport News.
