Man arrested following Suffolk shooting that severely injured woman

SUFFOLK, Va. - The Suffolk Police arrested a man in connection with a shooting that happened in the 3000 block of Cain Court Wednesday night.

Emergency Dispatch was notified of the incident around 10:30 p.m.

According to a news release, Suffolk police arrived on the scene and found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim had serious injuries and was ground transported to an area hospital by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel.

Officials said she is in critical condition as of Thursday morning.

Suffolk Police arrested 19-year-old Mykal Othnel Charter on five felony charges including malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm with serious injury, use of firearm in commission of felony , malicious shoot or throw missile in an occupied dwelling, and child abuse or neglect.

Additional charges are pending, according to police.
