NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police announced Thursday they have made an arrest in connection with the April 2019 shooting death of an 18-year-old.
Adrian Elijah Pierce, 20, of Newport News, is currently in custody. Police served him with warrants related to the death of 18-year-old Khali Rahquan Curry.
The warrants include: Second-degree murder; maliciously shoot/throw into occupied building; two counts of monument - intentional damage, value <$1000; firearm: use in the commission of a felony; and firearm: possession by a convicted felon.
On April 16, 2019, dispatchers received a call of gunshots heard in the 400 block of Goose Circle. The call was upgraded to a shooting shortly after.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Curry outside suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The complex where the shooting happened is right next to Fort Eustis. Many of the people who live there are military.
On the night of the incident, News 3 reporter Margaret Kavanagh spoke to people who said they knew Curry. They told us the 18-year-old, who worked down the street, had a bright future and said they're devastated and saddened by what happened.
