Man charged with attempted murder after road rage incident leads to shooting on Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Newport News man was charged with maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle, four counts of attempted murder in the second degree and four counts of use of a firearm after a road rage incident led to a collision and shooting on the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.

According to police, at approximately 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Chesapeake Field Office responded to a complaint of a highway shooting that occurred on I-664 N on the MMMBT.

Arriving officers learned that two vehicles traveling on the bridge became involved in a road rage incident, which led to a minor collision. After the collision, one of the drivers shot at the other driver's vehicle multiple times.

Police detained and arrested 40-year-old Newport News man Marrion Washington in connection with this incident. Washington was booked into the Newport News City Jail without bond.

No parties were injured as a result of the crash or gunfire, police said.
