NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police arrested a man for a DUI and a hit-and-run after he fled the scene of a crash that sent one person to the hospital Monday morning.

Police responded to a crash in the 900 block of E. Little Creek Road around 6:40 a.m.

When police arrived on the scene of the crash they found one driver of a Ford sedan suffering life-threatening injuries.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue extricated the driver and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

According to the investigation, 25-year-old Evan M. Stephens, driver of a Mercedes, ran a red light while traveling westbound on E. Little Creek Road.

Stephens struck the Ford sedan that was traveling southbound on Chesapeake Boulevard.

Stephens fled the scene on foot, police say. He was later arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated and a hit and run.

Stephens is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
