CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A man was charged with arson after a fire caused significant water damage to the WoodSpring Suites in Greenbrier.

The fire happened Saturday, January 2. The hotel, located at 137 Kempsville Road, was closed for repairs and all occupants were relocated, as rooms on all four floors suffered from water damage due to the hotel's sprinkler system.

According to the Chesapeake Police Department, 38-year-old Brandon A. McCarthy is currently being held at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center on a charge of felony arson of an occupied dwelling.

This is a developing story.
