Man charged with second degree murder after Portsmouth fatal shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A man has been charged with second degree murder after a fatal shooting that happened Wednesday.

25-year-old Javon Simms has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said.

On Wednesday around 8:30 a.m., a man was shot and killed in the 1000 block of Cherokee Road.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Khamarl Mahs.

Simms is currently being held at the Portsmouth City Jail.
