KITTY HAWK, N.C. - A man drown while swimming in the ocean at Kitty Hawk early Friday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m., the Kitty Hawk Police Department responded to the 5300 Block of North Virginia Dare Trail for a possible drowning.

When they arrived officers learned that 26-year-old Zacheus Dominetae, of Greenville, N.C., had entered the ocean with a friend to swim. While in the ocean they became caught in a rip current and were pulled out to sea.

The friend lost sight of Dominetae and was able to return to shore and call for emergency assistance, police said.

After an extensive search of the area by rescue personnel, his body was discovered several hours after the incident in the area where he was last seen.

Officials ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
